Our History:
The Friendship Quilt Guild began in 1993 with the gathering of 5 quilters at the local library. Within a few months, there were 24 members. Since then, the guild has continued to grow and change to best serve area quilters. The guild has sought to invest in the community through making "care quilts" to give to needy charities. In 1995, the guild hosted their first Quilt Show with 91 quilted items and almost 300 attendees. Since then, the show has grown to span two days and attracts over 1,000 attendees! "Challenge quilts," which are donated to charity, have become a feature aspect of the shows.
Our Mission:
The purpose of the Friendship Quilt Guild shall be to provide a community for local quilters-of all ages-to join together to share ideas, to educate, and to contribute to Brenham and the surrounding area communities.
The monthly meetings will serve as an outreach to the community. The Guild will work to preserve the heritage of quilting, promote the knowledge and understanding of all aspects of quilting, and provide opportunities for continuing education among those interested in the art of quilting.
Since 2005, The Guild is organized and operates for educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 or the corresponding provisions of any subsequent United States revenue law.
